Considering A Career As A Pharmacist? Here’s An Overview!
Pharmacists are clinical professionals, who are in charge of ensuring that patients receive proper drugs and treatments for health concerns and illnesses. Pharmacists have the experience and expertise about medications and pharmaceutical drugs, focusing on how these drugs interact or are used for medical conditions. Expectedly, this is a challenging and rewarding job at the same time, and pharmacists work with doctors, pharma companies, and patients in various capacities. How to become a pharmacist?
There are two options for aspiring pharmacists. Either they can choose to do an undergraduate program, and move to a graduate program, or else, they can select a program that combines both. Pre-pharmacy courses can be typically two/four-year programs. For advanced learning and to become a pharmacist, it is important to take up courses in subjects like physiology, microbiology, organic chemistry, and so on.
Then, of course, there are combined degrees, which allow the student to complete the entire coursework in lesser time. Most combined degrees are 6/7-year programs, and once successfully completed, students earn a degree in pharmacy. They get both bachelor’s and doctors degree with combined courses. If you are absolutely sure of your career path, a combined course may actually help you save considerable time.
Please note that to enroll in these courses, graduate and combined, students must clear the Pharmacy College Admissions Test. Check the preferred institute’s prerequisites to know better.
Once you have completed the coursework and got your degree, you must complete the licensing requirements as required by your state. In most states, Licensing requirements include getting degree (doctoral) accredited by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. There are also licensing examinations that pharmacists must be complete. These three include North American Pharmacist Licensing Exam, called NAPLEX, besides Written and Practical exam.

Your dream of becoming a pharmacist depends largely on the college you select, and we strongly recommend that you do your homework and find the right one. Make sure that you have checked all necessary information, accreditations, and if you are in high school reading this, make up your mind about a career in pharmacy and choose a combined course, if possible.
